ReCaptcha is now part of Google!
Search engine giant Google has announced that they are acquiring the ReCaptcha project.
The company said that they would now use their technologies to improve security measures on their own services.
Google would also use the project to help their book scanning and indexing project.
ReCaptcha was originally a project managed by the Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science.
It uses scanned text images from books as content for captcha for users to solve it. The massive popularity ensures that enough data is generated to help the verification process.
Google added in a blog post announcing this deal:
So we’ll be applying the technology within Google not only to increase fraud and spam protection for Google products but also to improve our books and newspaper scanning process.
