Gartner issues a warning to Oracle administrators

Software giants Oracle have just issued multiple patches for their applications, which are very popular in the market. Some of the issues were pretty serious and this has led to Gartner issuing an advisory claiming that the administrators of Oracle based systems can no longer be complacent about the integrity of their systems and should remain up-to-date with the updates and patches released by the company.

Gartner’s Rich Mogull wrote on these issues: “Oracle has not yet experienced a mass security exploit, but this does not mean that one will never occur.” Oracle has a good reputation in the market when it comes to security and integrity of the system. However, the seriousness and the ease of exploit of the flaws involved have proved that a disaster might be just around the corner if the administrators fail to stay up-to-date.

The problem is magnified in certain companies when patching the internal systems of a company become impossible due to no longer supported versions of the Oracle systems. In some cases, the combination of multiple versions working together to empower an organization makes the work of database administrators even more complicated. Gartner has warned them on time…

Market analysts have also quite frequently complained about the lack of interaction from the company related to discoveries of flaws in their systems. Oracle recently shifted to a quarterly bug update release compared to monthly patch rollout system of their biggest rivals Microsoft.
