Google might soon offer rentals through YouTube

Industry sources claim that Google is in talks with several movie studios to bring rental services to their video sharing service YouTube.

YouTube is currently the most popular video sharing destination on the web. It is also home to several movies and television shows which can be viewed freely.

The service is totally supported by online advertising though it is said to make heavy losses for the search engine giant.

Rentals through YouTube would boost revenues for Google if the service is liked by the web users.

This would also be the first time Google would charge users to watch anything on the service.

YouTube spokesman Chris Dale had this to say: “We hope to expand on both our great relationship with the movie studios and the selection and types of videos we offer our community.”

Apple iTunes, Netflix and Amazon are some of the other players in this segment of the market.
