Google Gmail went down earlier today because of overload problems!
Google has confirmed that their Gmail webmail service became inaccessible for some time.
The company said that they had taken down some of the servers for routine maintenance.
It overloaded the remaining servers causing downtime for the users accessing Gmail through their web browser.
The company however added that the service itself was accessible through POP and IMAP as these requests are handled by different servers.
Overall, this is yet another disappointment from the search engine giant. Gmail downtimes are becoming pretty regular and it tends to make more news compared to rival services.
We suggest that readers here relying on Gmail should use Gears to stay connected when it goes offline. And also keep an IMAP powered client handy for emergencies like this.
