Mozilla Firefox 1.5 sees more than 20 Million downloads
If you needed figures to prove that the open source web browser Mozilla Firefox is hot, here they are. The open source foundation has revealed that the latest version of their open source offering Mozilla Firefox 1.5 has seen more than 20 million downloads since its public release in November last year.
Mozilla Firefox as per some market estimates has achieved a market share of nearly 10% and is challenging the domination of Internet Explorer. So much so, that Microsoft had to start work on an update of Internet Explorer and announce the plans to release a version for the current generation Windows XP operating system.
Mozilla added that the browser is now available in as many as 35 different languages and is available for a multitude of platforms ranging from the Win OS to Linux to Mac OS to Solaris. The next minor update to this browser (Firefox 1.5.0.1) is scheduled for release later this month and would feature minor security and stability upgrades.
