Facebook to offer more privacy features in the future
Web’s most popular social network Facebook has announced that they would now give their users more control over the information that is shared with third party applications.
This was mostly in response to the demands made by Canadian privacy bodies.
As of now, users do not get many powers when they decide to use a third party application on the Facebook network.
This leads to potential privacy violation issues.
Developers of the third party tools would now have to specify what information is required by them for the functioning of their utility and users would be able to see the details and hide the information they want to keep private.
Canada’s Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart spoke about the new developments: “Application developers have had virtually unrestricted access to Facebook users’ personal information. The changes Facebook plans to introduce will allow users to control the types of personal information that applications can access.”
