Wikimedia Foundation gets USD 2 million commitment from Omidyar Network
Omidyar Network was started by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar.
The philanthropic investment group has now announced that they are going to provide USD 2 million in funds to the Wikimedia Foundation.
Wikimedia Foundation is mostly known for their open source encyclopaedia service Wikipedia.
These funds would be provided over a period of two years. The aim is to expand the availability of free educational content to people around the world.
As part of this announcement Matt Halprin has been appointed to Wikimedia’s board of trustees. He is a partner at Omidyar Network.
