The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation donates to Wikimedia

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has donated to Wikimedia which is responsible for the popular open source encyclopaedia Wikipedia.

The grand of $500,000 has been provided to improve the service.

Wikipedia relies on donations like these and from regular web users for running its operations.

The service operates without any form of advertising to remove any kind of bias that might tarnish its image.

Sue Gardner, the Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation spoke about this new grant: “The Hewlett Foundation’s support comes at a critical time. We’ve just begun the planning that will help us identify how to maximize our impact around the world. This support will help us to execute our priorities for the current year, and enable us to plan for the future.”
