Adobe Systems launches Acrobat 3D
Software giants Adobe which recently acquired major competitor Macromedia has announced their latest software offering named Acrobat 3D. Acrobat 3D is a high-end version of Acrobat and is aimed at CAD/CAM users who would now be able to display three-dimensional images within PDF documents.
This means that users would also have to upgrade to the latest version of Acrobat Reader to view files created in Acrobat 3D. Acrobat Reader is a free application provided by the company to enable users view files created in paid for versions of Acrobat applications. This software product would benefit companies who would like to exchange CAD files in the design process.
This would enable them to send PDF files with three-dimensional data without requiring the other party to own expensive applications to view them. These files also have support to let users add comment inside them for collaborative discussion. This would help the companies speed up the design collaboration process and reduce errors as per the statement released by the company.
In addition, sending files in PDF format would also prevent copying of potentially valuable designs by other people who get access to these documents. Overall, a potential winner for the company. Adobe is selling this software suite at a price tag of $995 per copy.
