Vienna to follow Microsoft Vista
Software giants Microsoft are working hard on releasing the final version of Windows Vista later this year before the shopping season begins. However, they have already named the version of Windows operating system, which would follow Vista. The next major update has now been codenamed Vienna.
Vista was known as Longhorn before the final name was decided by the company a couple of months back. And Vienna was called Blackcomb till now. However, Microsoft has now officially codenamed the next version to follow Vista as Vienna. However, considering the company is still working on the final set of options and features which would make it into Vista, it is not clear what the company has in plans for Vienna.
Also, considering the company has massively delayed the Vista operating system already, there is no probable launch date for the next version to succeed Vista. Microsoft said in a statement on Vienna: “The ‘Blackcomb’ code name has been changed to ‘Vienna’ but we do not have any other details to share on timing or focus. This does not reflect a big change for us; we have used city code names in the past, which are derived from cities/locations in the world known for great ‘vistas’ - the kinds of places we all want to see, experience and that capture the imagination. Vienna fits with this concept.”
The company would want to release more frequent updates to their operating systems considering Windows XP was launched way back in 2001.
