Automattic launches WP.me link shortening service for WordPress.com blogs

Automattic has announced the launch of their own link shortening service at WP.ME.

There is one major difference in this service.

This service is designed for their blog hosting service WordPress.com.

Each and every blog and blog post now has a short URL hosted on WP.me.

Matt Mullenweg spoke about this new service:

WP.me is the only two-letter .me domain in the world. These are all exposed in the using rel=shortlink. The links are permanent, they will work as long as WordPress.com is around.
