Microsoft to appeal i4i ruling which forbids them from selling MS Word!
As expected Microsoft has announced that they would appeal the ruling that forbids them from selling Microsoft Word in the US market.
The ruling was given in favour of the Toronto based software company i4i. Microsoft has also been ordered to pay more than 290 million dollars in damages and interest.
i4i owns some patents connected to XML technologies which are used in the recent versions of MS Word.
Microsoft has been given 60 days to comply with the order which practically would make it illegal for the company to sell MS Office suite in the US market.
Microsoft said in a statement: “We are disappointed by the court’s ruling. We believe the evidence clearly demonstrated that we do not infringe and that the i4i patent is invalid. We will appeal the verdict.”
