IBM to support Apple OS X with Lotus Notes
Microsoft on their part is working hard on getting more Lotus Notes users to migrate to their own software solutions. The software giants recently announced the availability of several migration utilities for this purpose. However, IBM is now targeting the users of Apple Computers with their Lotus Notes application products.
The company is all set to announce the updated Mac OS X support in the latest Notes client. As per incoming reports, IBM would be making this announcement at the upcoming Lotusphere scheduled for next week. The company is also tipped to be announcing big-time support for the new Intel-based Macs due later this year.
IBM would be targeting the growing base of users on Apple Computers with their Workplace Portal and Collaboration group, which consists of the Domino collaboration server, Notes client and Workplace portfolios. Their older software solutions, Notes 6.5 client support Mac OS 10.3. However, Notes 7 client currently has no support for the latest operating system products from the Macintosh maker.
IBM might have issues with Apple regarding their decision to drop the PowerPC processors to move to Intel based Microprocessors, but market analysts believe that both the companies have a similar competitor, Microsoft to face. This makes it important for both of them to cooperate with their products for the benefit of the end user who more reasons than ever to switch from Windows based platform to Apple Macintosh.
