More Trojans for Symbian based PDAs and Cell Phones
Owners of Symbian based PDAs and Cell Phones have more trouble in store for them as security application developers have reported a spate of new worms targeting these devices. The latest report comes from the popular security application maker Symantec who claims that these new Trojans discovered for the Symbian platform are more dangerous than ever before.
Symantec says that these latest worms are capable of seriously disrupting the operations on Bluetooth-enabled Symbian devices. Symbian is pretty popular amongst gadget makers like Nokia, Siemens AG, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, Motorola Inc., and Panasonic Corp. And the users of these devices need to be cautious about the Bluetooth connectivity of their devices.
Symantec has named first of these three threats as SymbOS.Sendtool.A which drops a hack tool that can be used to send malicious programs. This program includes variants of the SymbOS.PBStealer family of Trojans, which are then transferred to other similar devices using the Bluetooth technology.
There is another Trojan named SymbOS.Pbstealer.D, which forwards the victim’s contact information database, Notepad and Calendar To Do list to other Bluetooth-enabled devices. The third one is named SymbOS.Bootton.E and it is capable of restarting the device when is executed. However, as per Symantec, it is also capable of performing other dangerous tasks on the Bluetooth enabled Symbian based device.
However, market analysts have claimed that the security application makers are over blowing these security threats in order to sell more applications to this new generation of their customers. More and more companies are entering the market of developing security application suites for small screen devices and these kinds of threats are essential for them to sell their software products.
