Twitter working on filtering bad links on the service

If you are a heavy user of the Twitter micro-blogging social networking service, you would have noticed that it is misused by a lot of people to post links to malicious websites.

F-Secure has reported that Twitter has started working on filtering such postings. It has implemented a system which warns the user about any malicious link that is being posted.

The system needs work however as there are several ways the filters can be bypassed. For example, it is not detecting bad links which are encoded through link shortening services like TinyURL.

However, the system is likely to be fixed and updated with new mechanisms in the future.

It is not clear whether they are using existing third party services for the database of bad links or they have made their own listings.
