Microsoft announces Windows Anytime Upgrade program for Windows 7

Microsoft had launched their Windows Anytime Upgrade program originally for Windows Vista. It was not a major success as the implementation was tedious.

The company has fixed most of the issues with Windows 7 and they have now revealed the details for the Windows Anytime Upgrade program for this OS.

Windows Anytime Upgrade enables a user to upgrade his copy of the operating system to a premium version without reinstalling.

It works on the same generation of the operating system. For example, Windows Anytime Upgrade can be used to upgrade Windows 7 Starter to Home Premium edition.

Windows 7 users would not require their installation discs to make use of this facility. So, upgrades would be painless.

It would however cost the user more to upgrade from one version to another compared to the original price of the higher end version.

The prices are:

Windows 7 Starter to Home Premium: $79.99
Windows 7 Starter to Professional: $114.99
Windows 7 Starter to Ultimate $164.99
Windows 7 Home Premium to Professional: $89.99
Windows 7 Home Premium to Ultimate $139.99
Windows 7 Professional to Ultimate $129.99
