Opera Browser for Windows Mobile Pocket PC in Beta
Opera Software ASA has finally released a beta version of their upcoming browser application for the Windows Mobile Pocket PC platform. The company had ignored this segment since a long time considering their differences with the software giant. However, bowing to huge demand from its customer base, they finally decided to release a version of their fantastic web browser application for the Windows Mobile platform based PDAs.
This beta release has been delayed by a couple of months. However, it is a great move from the company to target the growing audience, which uses small screen devices powered by Microsoft technology. The company uses the same core in this version as well which it uses in its desktop-based application. This is to ensure that web pages look alike on the Opera browser on any supported platform.
This beta release supports Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0 and comes powered by Opera’s ERA technology, which resizes pages to fit a small display screen. The beta is available for free download from the Opera website and would function for 45 days trial period. Opera expects to release the final version within the next couple of weeks.
Opera recently made their browser application for desktop computers totally free. Earlier, the free versions come supported with inbuilt advertisement modules. However, the company claimed that since bulk of their revenues comes from the mobile industry, they could give away the browser release for desktops for free. Mobile versions of Opera Browser are however not free.
The company also recently went into a deal with search engine giant Google which would result in Opera making Google their default search engine in versions for mobile platform.
