Twitter promoting Firefox 3.5 on user profile pages?

This might just be a testing by the people behind Twitter…

A couple of Twitter users have reported that they are seeing a special message on their profile pages.

The message advices the user to upgrade/switch to a better web browser. And the product highlighted on the section is Firefox 3.5.

It is unlikely that Mozilla is paying for this form of ‘passive advertising’ on the Twitter network.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone had this to say on this new development:

This is not an advertisement and it’s not just for one browser—it’s customized based on which browser you’re currently using.

We’ve optimized Twitter.com for older browsers but we thought it would be worthwhile to let folks know that they could have a better Web experience on Twitter and in general if they upgrade to a newer version of whatever browser it is that they are using.
