Mac version of Green Dam-Youth Escort being tested
The internet cheered when the Chinese government announced that they were delaying the requirement for PC manufacturers in the country to ship all computers with Green Dam-Youth Escort web filtering software.
The Chinese government has confirmed that the plans are not cancelled at all. They are just delaying it for the time being.
Green Dam publisher Jinhui Computer System Engineering has already started testing the Mac version of this product.
Incidentally, the application did not work on 64bit operating systems and Apple Macs. The delay would enable the creator of this application to develop the appropriate versions for these platforms.
The only saving grace is that the software is not required to be installed on the computers. The company can just provide the installer along with the computers.
