Google makes Google Update app a little less evil
Google has some good news for those users who hated the Google Update technology that always ran in the background on their computers.
Google Update app was designed to run in the background keep checking for the latest updates for all the installed Google applications.
Any application that is found to be outdated was automatically updated. All in the background without user intervention.
It supported a couple of desktop applications provided by Google like Google Chrome, Google Earth.
Google has now revealed that they are changing the way this product works. It would no longer run in the background.
Instead, it would be called through Windows Task Scheduler to only run at periodic intervals. They have tried hard to make sure that it would still work as reliably as ever before.
The company had recently released the Google Update source code as Omaha to enable them to check it out for their own uses.
Google added that the system comes with a fallback solution. And users might now see GoogleCrashHandler.exe process in case they have enabled the crash reporting option in any of their products.
