Apple under fire for new Apple iTunes update

Macintosh maker Apple recently launched their first Mac computers powered by the Intel Dual Core processors. In addition, the company also updated their Apple iTunes applications with performance and security upgrades. However, the latest reports coming in suggest that the new upgrade has certain privacy issues, which have resulted in media analysts criticizing the company.

Apparently, the latest update to Apple iTunes includes a feature that recommends tracks similar to the music being played via iTunes. This means that the company transfer the information related to the songs user play on their computers on Apple iTunes applications. Critics say that the company should have been open about this new feature update. The problem is magnified considering the recommendations use unique identifiers for a computer and iTunes account.

Apple has for now just commented that they store no information on their systems which is transferred to them for this recommendation feature. The company has just mentioned in their license agreement for iTunes that it contacts the Gracenote music database to work out which album is being played via the program.

For users who want to disable this feature, Apple has a posted the steps for this on their support website. However, the problem remains that the company has not done enough to alert the users of Apple iTunes about this new privacy sensitive feature addition.
