Twitter disable functionalities to stay alive

The death of king of pop Michael Jackson was rather sudden. And it turned the heat on Twitter service.

Thousands of messages are being posted by fans of the popular musician and this has resulted in excessive load on the Twitter network.

The service has now temporarily disabled some functionality on the network to avoid any hiccups.

Twitter said in a blog posting:

We’ve had to temporarily disable search results from the logged-in homepage of twitter.com (this includes the saved searches and trends shown in the sidebar). We’re working on the underlying problem and will bring back these features as soon as we can.
