Safari and Firefox does good in latest browser statistics

NetApplications has revealed their latest statistic figures for the web browser market share on the internet and there is little good news for the software giants Microsoft. As per the latest statistics, it is the Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox, which is gaining strongly on Microsoft Internet Explorer. Opera users would be disappointed to see that they have failed to gain much despite the recent announcement of the browser going free (without any ads).

However, the domination of Internet Explorer is such that such minor gains in other browser’s market share still looks small enough. IE continues to remain the dominating web browser on the internet with around 85.05 percent market share. However, they have lost close to around 5% market share in the last year with the arrival of the open source web browser Mozilla Firefox.

Firefox has ended the year at around 10% market share. This is expected to improve with the recent launch of the stable version of Firefox 1.5. Safari shown in the survey results despite the fact that it is available only for Macintosh computers. It has now jumped past Netscape browser to record a market share of around 3.07 percent. Last year, this browser had a market share of just around 1.56 percent.

Netscape now has a smallish market share of around 1.24 percent share and they are followed by Opera with around 0.55 percent market share.
