Artists reject to do Chrome themes for free for Google

Search engine giant Google recently asked a couple of high profile artists to do artwork for their Chrome web browser.

Google was expecting them to do the job for free considering it was to be offered with the Chrome browser which of course is available for free.

However, the offer was rejected by several artists like Gary Taxali, Joe Ciardiello and Melinda Beck.

Here were some of the responses given to Google

Taxali: “So for you, I give you a special salute that I hope will keep you away because I don’t need your work.”

Ciardiello: “You’d think that if anyone can afford to pay artists and designers it would be a company that is making millions of dollars.”

Beck: “I have done gift cards for Target that are in stores nationwide and animations for Nickelodeon that run 24 hours a day worldwide on cable TV. Both of these jobs were high-profile and gave my work great exposure but both clients still paid me.”

Google just had this to say in response: “However, we are currently working with dozens of artists who are excited about the opportunity to be involved in this project.”

We are pretty sure that Mozilla did not pay any money to the thousands of contributors of their Firefox project. However, the problem is that in this particular case Google approached professionals to do work for them for free.
