Windows 7 without Internet Explorer for Europe!

Microsoft has announced the unthinkable. The US based software giant has announced that they would ship their Windows 7 operating system in the European markets without the (much hated) Internet Explorer web browser.

This is largely due to the fact that the company has been repeatedly criticized by the European Union for forcing the users to use Internet Explorer by bundling it with the operating system.

Customers are free to install third party web browsers… But most people stick to IE as it comes installed by default giving Microsoft an unfair advantage.

Microsoft has been claiming that in all the recent operating system releases, IE was at the core of the Windows platform which made it complicated for them to remove it from the system.

With Windows 7, they have fixed the technicalities and it can sustain on its own with Internet Explorer on it.

Microsoft has been quoted as saying: “To ensure that Microsoft is in compliance with European law, Microsoft will be releasing a separate version of Windows 7 for distribution in Europe that will not include Windows Internet Explorer.”

This could be good news for rival web browser makers like Mozilla, Opera and even Apple… But it could also become a major headache for the consumers in the European markets. It is pretty complicated for a newbie to download a web browser from the web without having access to one.

Experts believe that this would not be a problem for most as majority of system builders are likely to bundle the Windows 7 OS with at least one of the several web browser options.

I predict that these versions will be almost as successful as Windows XP N (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886540).

All 5 of the EU employees who buy a license for testing (and then throwing away) this version will be highly satisfied :P
