Blackberry users have TIFF attachment problems

Most of the times, it is the users of the Windows Operating System who are targeted with security flaws related to mail attachments. However, the latest news in is that now even the famed Blackberry PDA device users can get their gizmos affected by simply opening up a maliciously coded image file.

As per the statement released by the Blackberry maker Research in Motion, users of blackberry device can be affected by this security vulnerability if they open a malicious image sent via an email. This flaw would render this capability to view attachments coming through mail messages on the device.

The company has said that the flaw lies in their Blackberry Enterprise Server and the attacker would require creating a specially designed TIFF file to make use of this vulnerability. However, this flaw would not affect the other functionalities of email sending and receiving on the device other than disabling the capability to view attachments.

Research in Motion has also confirmed that they have developed a patch to fix this issue and are currently testing it before releasing it to their users. Until then, they recommend that the users avoid opening files coming from unknown sources or disable receiving attachments all together.
