Symantec, McAfee to pay fines for auto renewal mess
Security software companies Symantec and McAfee have both agreed to pay fines to the New York Attorney General’s office.
The two companies would pay fines of US$375,000 to settle the charges levied on them
Both McAfee and Symantec were accused of charging their customers renewal fees without taking permissions.
Investigators pursuing the charges confirmed that the two companies failed to inform their customers that the products they are purchasing would be automatically renewed and their credit cards would be charged.
The two companies are now required to make better disclosures about subscription renewal fees when customers sign up.
