Microsoft advices Windows OS users to wait for the official patch
A critical flaw was discovered in the Windows Operating System last week. The flaw lied in the way Windows OS handles the popular WMF (Windows Metafile) format. This leads to a possibility of a computer getting infected if it opens up an infected file as it can be forced to execute an arbitrary code. Microsoft officially recognized the flaw and confirmed that they are working on a fix.
However, the high probability of people getting infected by this bug led to emergence of some unofficial patches by security experts who advices the users to apply them to prevent issues till the company launches an official patch. Microsoft has now stated and advised the Win OS users to wait for the official patch instead and not take the risk of trying out unofficial and untested patches.
The company has also updated its advisory on their website and informs that the patch has been developed which is being tested for a public release in the near future. They are planning to release the patch on January 10, which is the official patch release day of the company. It would be made available after extensive testing and the company plans to offer them in 23 languages for all affected versions of its software simultaneously.
