Opera Software aims to stay independent
Mobile Browser market has literally exploded in the recent times. Apple started it all with the Safari for Mobile on their iPhone.
It was probably the first mobile browser that gave users the power to web in its original form.
Opera however is probably the strongest candidate in the mobile browser segment as it is available on almost all the platforms.
Apple is unlikely to make their Safari Mobile browser available on other competing platforms.
However, the situation is becoming more complicated with Mozilla getting close to the launch of their own edition of mobile Firefox browser.
Opera is in a tight situation as a result. They made their desktop browser free while they continue to charge for the mobile editions.
Opera has said that they are aiming to stay independent and competitive despite the emergence of strongest ever competition in this segment of the market.
Opera Software chief executive Jon von Tetzchner said in a statement: “We are stronger than ever. Some of the strength that we have is the fact that we are independent. We will work with everyone.”

Opera Mobile did that long before Iphone/Itouch were out, so it's kinda false statement. It's true however, Itouch/Iphone introduced that possibility to the mass.
