Apple has reportedly made little money from App Store
Apple App Store has been a smashing success for Apple. This has resulted in almost every Smartphone maker launching their own mobile applications store.
However, market analysts now believe that Apple is likely to have made pretty little from the sales of applications on the Apple App Store.
Jeremy Liew from venture firm Lightspeed Venture Partners has stated that they believe Apple has made a modest $20 – $45 million from the sales since the launch.
They arrived at this figure from some speculations. Apple recently revealed that as many as a billion apps have been downloaded from the Apple App Store.
Of course a majority of them were free applications that generate no money for either the developer or Apple.
Liew estimated 25 million to 60 million of the billion apps downloaded were paid. And at $2.65 average price for a paid app, the revenue comes to between $70 to $160 million. Apple keeps 30% of this revenue as the rest goes to the developer.
