McAfee claims mobile malware to increase next year
Security application maker McAfee has claimed that the next year will see a massive growth in the amount of mobile malware active in the wild. Mobiles are getting more and more sophisticated nowadays and are as vulnerable to spyware and worms as computers are. And we have already seen cases of viruses being programmed specifically for mobile devices and as we see the technology getting more popular, the malware is bound to increase too.
The McAfee’s security research lab claimed that the problem could be worse considering few mobile users have considered running security applications on their handheld devices. This is in contrast to PC users who are now actively using applications like Anti-Spyware and Anti-Virus applications.
McAfee claims that the last one year has seen the kind of growth in mobile malware, which PC users saw over a period of a decade. And these kind of worms are worse as they spread faster then PC based variants. Technologies like Bluetooth make them more dangerous as just keeping your mobile phone on can make them vulnerable to getting infected from mobile users around you.
And mobile users are not alone, the problems for the average PC users is also bound to increase with spyware programs getting more and more sophisticated with better mutation technologies being incorporated inside them.
