Microsoft launches beta of Windows 7 XP Mode
Windows 7 RC edition is now available as a free download.
Microsoft has also now made available a beta edition of the XP mode that would be available to customers of top end variants of Windows 7 when it is released.
This XP mode is designed to enable the users to run vintage applications which fail to run on Windows 7 but can work on a virtualized Windows XP environment.
This feature would be provided as a free add-on that could be downloaded from the web.
It creates a virtual environment of a pre-activated licensed copy of Windows XP Service Pack 3 using Virtual PC on Windows 7.
This new feature depends upon the process capabilities so would not work on all computers. However, most recent processors would be able to support it.
