Automattic launches BuddyPress for WordPress MU
Automattic has announced the launch of BuddyPress social networking component for WordPress multiuser blogging networks.
This enables the users running a network of WordPress blogs to add a social networking element to their service.
It works with WordPress multiuser version.
Some of the new features added by BuddyPress include private-messaging features, profile setups and activity streams.
These features are highly customizable to provide the best options for the web publishers.
Automattic’s Matt Mullenweg spoke about BuddyPress: “There’s been a dearth of Open Source tools that enable the social web. I don’t think BuddyPress will be something you use instead of your existing social networks … but if you wanted to start something new maybe with more control, friendlier terms of service, or just something customized and tweaked to fit into your existing site, then BuddyPress is a great framework.”
