Microsoft ends support for Internet Explorer for Macintosh
World’s largest software company Microsoft has announced that they are ending giving support for their internet explorer software for the Macintosh platform. They had already announced long time back that no development work was being done to release any further versions of this browser. Now, the existing users of this web browser are advised to move to other offerings on the Macintosh platform.
Microsoft has said that they would no longer be releasing any security updates or patches for this version on which they had earlier stopped working in June 2003. In addition, the company would also be removing this browser from their Mactopia site. It would also be no longer available for download on the Microsoft’s website.
The decision to stop supporting the Macintosh version of the IE browser comes with no surprise. The version for the Mac is effectively three years old and for a web browser, it seems like an eternity to have no updates. Browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Opera receives regular updates and with newer technologies becoming popular on the web, it is pretty worthless to stick to old browsers like the IE for Mac.
Apple did well by launching their own Safari web browser a couple of years ago to continue offering an updated and more standard compatible browser product with their Operating System. Now with Mozilla and Opera working hard on their own products, it is high time for Mac IE users to switch to newer browser applications.
