Ubuntu Linux 9.04 Netbook Remix designed for netbooks
Canonical is targeting netbook market with the launch of the special edition Ubuntu Linux 9.04 Netbook Remix.
This edition of Ubuntu is designed specifically for use on netbooks.
Netbooks are the cheap laptops which are designed to be used as a second machine at home.
These low power machines are mostly used for web surfing and other activities.
Canonical said that this netbook edition of Ubuntu is designed to run basic Web and office applications which are popular in this segment of the market.
It is leaner and faster than the regular Ubuntu editions. In addition it also comes with better power-management features to boost battery life.
The hardware requirements for this Ubuntu edition are: 4GB of storage, 384MB of RAM and an Intel Atom processor.
The developers said that this distribution has been tested on several models in the market including: Acer Aspire One, Asus Eee PC 1000 and Dell Mini 9.

4GB of storage makes it unsuitable for netbook use
