Yahoo! Mail allows dots in email addresses
This is of course not a very significant update. However, it would allow a lot of loyal Yahoo! Mail users to get a more human mail id if they were unlucky to find one the first time. Yahoo! has announced on their Yahoo! Mail Blog that they now allow users to use dot (.) in the mail ids and using the profile feature of their service, users can continue to use their existing mailboxes with their new ids.
Yahoo! is currently beta testing their Web 2.0 based web mail interface, which is designed to take on Google’s Gmail, which has practically revolutionized the way we have used web based mail clients. Google already allow email ids with dots in them, so it is a bit too late by Yahoo! to take this step.
However, this would still help a lot of Yahoo! Mail users to get relevant email ids for their usage. We at TechWhack are more inclined towards Google’s Gmail service and are eagerly waiting for the Yahoo! Mail Beta to arrive for their India users. In addition, Microsoft is also working on their Windows Live™ Mail beta to stay competitive in this market.
