Apple bans iPhone developers to code for unofficial stores
Apple has updated the terms and conditions of the iPhone SDK.
One of the major update bans developers coding for the iPhone platform to release their applications on unofficial stores.
The conditions states:
“Applications developed using the Apple Software may only be distributed if selected by Apple (in its sole discretion) for distribution via the App Store or for limited distribution on Registered Devices (ad hoc distribution) as contemplated in this Agreement.”
One of the popular unofficial stores for iPhone is the Cydia Store. Cydia enables the user to jailbreak an iPhone or an iPod touch to let it run unofficial third party applications.
Apple has several limitations on the applications which can be sold through the Apple App Store which remains the only legal alternative for iPhone owners to get third party tools and applications.
