Windows Live Mail to succeed MSN Hotmail

When Hotmail was launched around 10 years ago, it was a revolutionary product, which enabled users to send mail messages from the web browser itself. A small startup launched by two ambitious entrepreneurs Jack Smith and Sabeer Bhatia has now become a world wide force with some help from the world’s largest software company Microsoft and it is now soon going to see a major change in design, interface in a totally new avatar.

The company has now announced that they are developing Windows Live Mail, which will offer a web-based program with a more cleaner look and with white space replacing Hotmail’s dark background. It is being touted as the successor of the very popular Hotmail web mail service. The evolution would represent Microsoft’s usage of the Web 2.0 technology on web mail technology.

Windows Live Mail will let users drag and drop messages into folders, use keyboard shortcuts and navigate more quickly among messages in a Web-based in-box. Reports say that the company plans to eventually replace MSN Hotmail with Windows Live Mail as the company’s main Web-based consumer e-mail service. The service is currently undergoing beta testing at the company’s Live.com initiative.

I CANT SIGN UP

I CANT SIGN UP BECOZ IT APPEARS DIALOG ABOX THAT IT SAY THAT I AM UNDER 13 YRS OLD ..

I went to live.com to try and sign up for the Live Mail Beta. However, you need to have an existing Hotmail account to be able to sign up, so I was unable to.

It seems like such a wasted opportunity - a lot of potential signups are being turned away at this early stage.
