YouTube is partially unavailable in Germany
Google owned video sharing service YouTube has revealed that they are blocking access to some of their content in Germany.
This is due to a dispute with the country’s artistic royalty-collecting body.
With this, content from some of the major media companies is no longer accessible in Germany.
YouTube said that most of the content like from independent artists remain untouched.
YouTube’s contract with the GEMA expired yesterday and the videos are likely to remain blocked till a new agreement is reached.
GEMA is asking the company to pay 1 cent for every instance of a video play from their members. YouTube said that this is not possible considering the service is provided for free to the end user and they do not generate much revenue from ads.
