Microsoft Silverlight 3 beta showcased
US based software giant Microsoft has showcased the first beta of their upcoming Silverlight 3 technology.
This would be the first version of Silverlight which would run outside the web browser as well.
Microsoft said that with this latest edition, developers would be able to use threads within Silverlight apps to boost performance and increase application responsiveness.
Interestingly, this is one capability that is still missing from Adobe Flash which is the main rival of Microsoft Silverlight.
Market analyst Dave Meeker spoke about Silverlight 3: “Silverlight has not only made up ground on Flash, it’s also moving into the world of Adobe AIR. Now that Microsoft is looking at building these kinds of applications, you don’t need to be a hardcore programmer.”
Microsoft Silverlight 3 beta also comes with support for several new 3-D effects. It would also natively support H.264 video in the future.
