Bharatiya Janata Party promises shift to open source technology
Bharatiya Janata Party is currently the largest opposition party in India.
With elections coming up in a couple of months, every political party is coming out with their promises and manifestos.
Bharatiya Janata Party has revealed that they would standardize on open standards and open source software if they come to power at the center.
This could become a major problem for software giants like Microsoft if India takes the open source path.
The IT policy of the BJP also proposes having a Multipurpose National Identity Card for every Indian citizen. This card would feature a unique Citizen Identification Number. The aim is to have a single common identification card for all Indians.
It remains to be seen if the IT promises made by the parties in India meet the fate of other promises that are made before every elections.
