Apache 2.2 is out
The Apache Software Foundation has finally released the stable version of its flagship Web server software offering Apache 2.2. The foundation is claiming that this major update brings improvements in a number of areas including capabilities to handle large files and improved support for SQL databases. Apache is the dominating web server application currently being used over the internet and this update would bring many cheers amongst web masters.
The foundation is recommending that the web admins should replace the previous iterations like 2.0 and 1.3 with the latest version 2.2 of the Web server. They said in a statement: “We consider this release to be the best version of Apache available and encourage all users to upgrade. Apache 2.2 offers numerous enhancements, improvements, and performance boosts over the 2.0 code base.”
They added: “This release has been through extensive testing, including live testing at some of the world’s busiest sites, and is now considered stable. The default configuration layout has been simplified and modularized. Configuration snippets which can be used to enable commonly-used features are now bundled with Apache, and can be easily added to the main server config.”
Apache 2.2 now handle files larger than 2 Gb and many more enhancements have been incorporated in this latest update.
