Windows Mobile 7 coming next year
Microsoft has said that they are aiming to release Windows Mobile 7 sometime next year.
The company is for now expected to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 sometime later this year.
Microsoft face tremendous competition in the mobile operating system market with the entry of new players like Apple, Google Android and of course Palm Pre.
Research in Motion is already a pretty strong rival and Symbian continues to dominate this market.
Microsoft has also announced a special service for the users of Windows Mobile named My Phone. It works similar to Apple MobileMe and offers syncing facilities with the web.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer spoke about these new generation products: “Windows, Windows Mobile… those two will become I’d say closer in many ways. There’s still a real distinction between what’s a phone and what’s a PC. And yet the amount of technology that can be shared across that border continues to go up.”
Sounds something similar to what Apple has done with their products in the recent times.
