Nokia to invest heavily in Symbian mobile platform
Nokia is the world’s largest mobile phone maker and Symbian is the world’s most popular mobile platform.
However, both Nokia and Symbian face massive competition from the new players in these markets.
Nokia has now announced that they are being provided a $630 million loan by the European Investment Bank to invest in the Symbian platform to make it more competitive.
Nokia recently acquired the Symbian entity and announced the formation of Symbian Foundation.
This foundation is supported by a lot of market players including some of the rivals of Nokia. They are working on releasing an open source edition of Symbian to make it a more popular platform for the developers and mobile phone makers.
The company spoke about the latest developments: “Nokia envisages that the R&D activities supported by this loan will also benefit the work of the Symbian Foundation and its development of open source software for mobile devices.”
