Yahoo Mail without ads in emerging markets!

Yahoo has revealed that they have decided to remove ads from Yahoo Mail in certain emerging markets.

The company said that users in these markets are switching to rival service providers as the internet connectivity is poor in these regions.

Yahoo uses heavy graphical ads in their webmail service unlike Gmail which limits the ads to text based versions.

Sanford Bernstein analyst Jeffrey Lindsay spoke about this decision taken by Yahoo: “What’s very encouraging is that Bartz is thinking about overseas users, because this suggests to us that she’s definitely considering growth strategies. She could have gone the other way, and slash and burn.”

Carol Bartz was recently appointed the new CEO of Yahoo.

Yahoo Mail is the second most popular webmail service in the world with around 280 million users.

Google is catching up fast with both Yahoo Mail and Hotmail. Analysts believe that Gmail at its current growth levels can overtake the rivals within a year or two.
