Michael Widenius leaves Sun Microsystems to launch Monty Program
Michael “Monty” Widenius is the original developer of the popular open source database system MySQL.
He has now announced his resignation from Sun Microsystems to start his own company Monty Program.
Monty announced this new development on his personal blog.
Sun Microsystems had acquired MySQL last year for US$1 billion.
He spoke about his departure from the company: “I still think that Sun was the best possible buyer for MySQL and I feel sad that things didn’t work out together.”
He further promises that Monty Program Ab will be “a true open-source company”.
