Net Applications: Apple now has a 10% market share
Market research company Net Applications has stated in a report that Apple now has a 10% market share in the OS market.
The report said that Apple’s share grew to 9.93 per cent in January. The share of Windows OS was around 88.26 per cent.
Apple iPhone on its own has a market share of 0.48 per cent which is impressive for a mobile device.
The report added that Windows 7 has shown its effect in the statistics even though it is not yet released.
Microsoft made available a beta edition last month which was downloaded worldwide by millions of users.
Net Applications said in a statement: “This is an indication of strong interest in Windows 7, since it does not come pre-installed on a computer, like Vista. Beta users are taking the time and effort to install it on their home computers, since corporations generally prohibit beta operating systems in production environments.”
Linux remains a minor player in the market despite the growing popularity of netbooks.
