Britannica to become a little bit Wikipedia type
Wikipedia is one of the most popular reference source online. However, it’s not recommended as an authoritative source.
Britannica on the other hand has the advantage of being an authoritative source for information.
Britannica has announced that they are now going to allow users to submit content and suggestions to articles.
Britannica editors would review them and make the alternations in the content of the encyclopedia as required.
Britannica President Jorge Cauz spoke about this feature being compared to a Wiki: “That’s the last thing we want to be. We are a different type of animal, catering to a different type of crowd.”
He spoke about Wikipedia: “Wikipedia contributes to the spread of information and many people are happy with it as their only source of reference, as are many people happy to eat McDonald’s every day.”
Wikipedia has several times the traffic compared to Britannica which does not provide free access to information.
