Presidential Inaugural to be streamed using Microsoft Silverlight

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden are to be sworn in and deliver inauguration speeches next Tuesday in Washington DC.

These events would be broadcast online on the Presidential Inaugural Committee’s Web site.

The technology to be used for this broadcast would be Microsoft Silverlight.

This is not going to amuse many people as it is a known fact that Silverlight is not as widely available as competing technologies like Adobe Flash.

Microsoft said that they are working with IStreamPlanet to make this event a successful one online.

Market analyst Ben Dewey had some good words for the Silverlight technology: “Silverlight 1.0 was a glorified media player. The release of Silverlight 2 is when it really took off.”
