Microsoft fixes major bugs in this month’s Patch Tuesday release
Microsoft has released the Patch Tuesday updates for the month of January 2009.
These fixes include patches for a crucial bug in the company’s Server Message Block.
Experts say that one of the bugs is huge enough to make “Swiss cheese” out of enterprise networks.
Eric Schultze, the chief technology officer at Shavlik Technologies spoke about this particular bug: “This is super nasty. Expect to see a worm on this one in the very near future, this is Blaster and Sasser all over again.”
Overall three bugs were patched in this update. Two of these are labeled critical. One is labeled moderate.
The updates are for a variety of Microsoft operating systems including Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista and Server 2008.
